If you are like me, you associate diesel with big semis delivering the goods that we need to live our daily lives….Diesel mostly makes me think of truck stops with the greasy spoon restaurant that makes a great skillet breakfast!…Your Chicago Volvo dealer is selling (or will be selling) vehicles that will hopefully change the way most of us think about diesel-powered automobiles.

Chicago Volvo used cars and new cars that are powered using this type of fuel offer some advantages to drivers. A diesel powered auto or SUV may cost a little more upfront, but they offer better fuel mileage: about 30% better versus gas vehicles. This makes a diesel-powered SUV good for toting around a boat, snowmobile or jet ski. Can anyone say ‘trip to the mountains’ or ‘Upper Peninsula’ for some fun winter time fun!??!

However, diesel fuel is not viewed as favorably in the United States as in other parts of the world. In 2008, cars fueled with diesel made up just over 70% of sales in Norway. In an auto show in Geneva, Switzerland that was held last winter, Volvo had on display seven clean diesel powered cars, including a hatchback car that is pretty popular. It is reported that the models shown will not be sold at your Chicagoland used Volvo dealer as soon as one might hope. This is largely due to the negative way that diesel is viewed in the US, as well as the fact that it’s more expensive at the pump, something no one wants to hear in this poor economy! Still, what Volvo does offer is well ahead of the game when it comes to bringing more diesel alternatives to American soil.
