With all of the new models coming out, there is more focus on autos that are environmentally friendly. We see the phrase “fewer CO2 emissions” a lot more frequently nowadays. But what does it really mean? Most of us probably don’t have a clue what is coming out of the tailpipe of our Chicago S60. That’s where Volvo comes in. Let’s find out some more information about the Emissions Equality Campaign they’re launching.

Volvo, along with some other auto experts, is arguing that other materials emitted by autos are a lot more harmful than CO2. The harmfulness of carbon dioxide may be overinflated by governments to the point that they’re overlooking materials that could cause even more harm. For example, NOx, hydrocarbon and other particulates also come out of a car and are very harmful to the world around us.

Volvo is pushing for a labeling system showing non-CO2 emissions, such as the ones mentioned above. Currently, the emissions data for cars that have been manufactured since 2001 has been published and Volvo is putting together an app that will allow an auto owner to find out what’s coming out his or her Chicago new Volvo. This is information that would be very interesting to find out, as an informed auto owner is much better off in the long run.

This may not seem like a huge deal to many of us here in the United States, but in other parts of the world, people are taxed based on the amount of CO2 coming from their cars. For example, in London, there is a congestion charge that is based on electric cars that have “zero emissions”. Volvo argues that the zero emissions are only to an extent to which they’re used and should consider the CO2 cost of a battery in a hybrid. Also, the hybrid cars should be figured in how much NOx they could be emitting.

Clearly, this is an issue that Volvo feels strongly about. It really makes me stop and think about what might be coming out of my Chicago S60. Amidst all the recent recalls and safety problems that have arisen on some autos, driving a vehicle that is safe is at the top of the list when it comes to what a driver is looking for. A safe auto should always be a priority when choosing a Chicago S60 or other model, but when there’s a lot of media coverage on a bad part or brand, you start to look at safety all that much more.

The NHTSA, which stands for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is getting more strict when it comes to guidelines for vehicles passing a safety test. They’ve released a new five-star safety rating program that they’re going to use on testing certain aspects of an auto’s safety. They’re rolling out the new program on a wide range of 2011 model year cars, vans, SUVs, and pickup trucks.

The NHTSA’s safety guidelines have always been comprehensive and well-respected amongst the auto circle. Now, these guidelines are going from very good to great, meaning they’ll be even more comprehensive. For example, a Chicago Volvo XC60, was one of the 2011 models chosen to undergo this new testing. One area that’ll be tested even better is the crash survivability. Instead of just looking at that factor,the NHTSA will analyze crash avoidance technology. This is one feature that many car makers are starting to offer, either standard or as part of an upgradable package.

Over the years, many Volvo models have received great crash test ratings. For example, the 2009 Chicago S60 received the highest reward of “Good” in several areas of the Frontal Offset Test, which looks at injuries sustained during a crash and more.  It looks at injuries in relationship to airbags offered, as well as other safety features like ESC (standard on an ’09 model), anti-lock brakes, and daytime running lights.

The new S40 currently for sale at your Chicago XC90 dealer is an amazing car that’s sure to make you a happy driver.  The interior and exterior designs are very nice.  The 2011 S40 has a modern and sleek look with side panels and a cab forward design.  It’s roomy inside, but has a compact look that makes it sportier.  The 2011 S40 comes in many exciting color options such as Silver Metallic, Flamenco Red Metallic, and so much more!

Moving to the inside, you’ll find many great qualities.  The leather is new, offering contrasting hues to make the seats stand out.  The overall layout of the cabin is Scandinavian with a focus on clean lines and uncluttered space.  The center console and gauges are laid out in a user friendly way for the driver.  Several features can be added to your S40 such as Bluetooth technology, a remote heater, and a premium sound system. 

Engine and powertrain wise, the engine that was originally fitted in your Chicago S60 is now in the newest S40.  This being the 5-cylinder, turbo diesel that’s 2.0 Liters.   This can be broken down into different formats that are currently available in the 2011 S40.  You can opt for the D4 with 177 hp and 400 Nm of torque or the D3 with 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque.  The cool thing about either one is that they meet the standards for emissions that have been placed in Europe.  The goal is to reduce the amount of CO2 that can be harmful to the environment.

Like in the Chicago XC90, Volvo prides itself on offering many safety features that keep drivers and passengers safe.  In the X40 you’ll get Brake Assist, Traction Control, an overhead airbag, side and frontal impact airbags and much more!  Other more sophisticated safety features are available as add on options for the base model such as the Intelligent Driver Information system and four-wheel anti lock braking system.  Some of these features come standard on other S40 options.  The staff at your Chicago S60 dealer will be able to help you find the safety features that are right for you.

We’ve been waiting as patiently as possible for the new Chicago S60.  This mid size sedan is all new for the car year of 2011.  It comes equipped with many great features.  Let’s take a look!

Volvo has been promising a sporty sedan for awhile now.  In fact, there have been some past models that have done well in the “sport” category, such as the PV.  Now, it looks like the 2011 S60 might just be the sporty ticket they’ve been looking for.  Although, when you look at it, it doesn’t jump out at you and say, “I’m a sports car”, but there are some features that elude to that.  For example, when you take this attractive sedan around around a nice corner it does very well.  This is thanks to the corner traction control system that keeps the front of the car from “washing out”.  The engine is also designed to produce 300 HP, which is a good indication of a car that’s able to get around with some spunk! 

In addition, the 2011 S60 offers many outstanding safety features.  This is an area that Volvo prides itself on, whether you decide to buy a new or buy used Volvo Chicago.   Keep in mind, though, that some safety features found in 2010 or 2011 models might not be found in all used models.  The 2011 S60 comes standard with a City Safety package that includes stability control, inflatable side curtains, side-impact protection, and whiplash-protective seats.  Sounds like a car I’d definitely feel safe driving around in, especially while toting around a toddler!

Another area that gets many kudos in my book is the Chicago S60‘s interior.  It’s beautiful!  It is designed in way that favors Scandinavian taste and has materials with better quality.  You’ll get pebbled leather that is thick and comfortable.  Nothing worse than uncomfortable seating for a longer car ride!   Also, the gauges are laid out in a more user friendly way.  The navigation system is operated by 2 round dials on the center console and the buttons on the steering wheel are a secondary operating option, versus the main way of operating in former models.  This will be much better for the driver!

It’s clear that the 2011 S60 is a Volvo worth checking out when it arrives on lots this fall!  If you need a Volvo fix in the meantime, you can head to your local dealer and buy used Volvo Chicago models or test drive some of our new options!

Let’s just say that this concept car designed by a Volvo intern is possibly more exciting than any Volvo model you’ve seen in the past.  Thanks to Nouphone J. Bansasine, Volvo may have a premium sports car to compete in that class by the year 2015.

Bansasine designed this four door coupe during his time at the Volvo Monitoring and Concept Center.  This is the same place where the used xc90 Chicago, S80 and S60 came to life.  Great work has truly come out of these walls!

Volvo hasn’t announced whether or not this concept will actually make it to your Chicago c70 dealership.  Bansasine truly made this premium sports coupe stand out.  There is a “sculptured” look throughout the car’s exterior.  For instance, the long hood, pronounced LED headlights, and a large grille are definitely head turners. A few other features that give it a sports car flare are the large wheels, tail lights that have a boomerang shape, and flared front fenders.

One of the biggest questions you probably have is “What type of engine will the concept come with if it goes into production?”  There is no set answer at this time.  Since it’s designed to be in a premium sports car arena, some reports have stated the powertrain might be similar to a Porsche Panamera.   It will likely have an all wheel drive system also found in other Volvo autos, such as the Chicago c70.

I am still blown away by the attractive design of the 2015 Bansasine concept model.  It’s features are unlike any Volvo I’ve test driven, including a recent used xc90 Chicago.  I certainly hope Volvo decides to bring this exciting sports coupe to reality!
